Mel B was brought on board for the upcoming season of NBC’s hit summer series “America’s Got Talent” to spice things up, but the Spice Girl got off to a shaky start on her first day on the job.
The first day of “Talent” auditions kicked off Monday in New Orleans, where Mel B was booed by the audience, according to TMZ.
One of the singer’s critiques hit a sour note with the crowd when Lagniappe, an extremely popular brass band in New Orleans, hit the stage. It seems Mel B is not a fan of brass music, and she said as much … apparently forgetting that she was in New Orleans. (Dissing brass music in the Big Easy is a big no no.)
The live audience went “nuts,” according to TMZ, with the crowd booing Mel B and shouting such things as “Go home!” and “No respect!”
Mel B didn’t seem prepared for that reaction and leaned on fellow judge Howie Mandel for support, the report says.
Heidi Klum, the other new addition to the “AGT” judges’ panel for Season 8, fared better on the first day. Klum and Mel B join Mandel and returning judge Howard Stern as judges, replacing departing judge Sharon Osbourne.
Season 8 of “America’s Got Talent” debuts this summer on NBC.
