Justin Timberlake proved once again that he has a knack — or at least an affection — for doing comedy when he teamed up with Jimmy Fallon and Steve Carell for a lengthy comedy bit on NBC’s “Late Night” on Wednesday.
The sketch involved Carell because he was a guest on “Late Night,” promoting his new magicians’ comedy “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.” But the sketch he did with Fallon and JT was set in a men’s clothing shop, ostensibly because the title of one of Timberlake’s new songs is “Suit & Tie” (which JT performed last weekend on “Saturday Night Live”).
But that wasn’t really the point of the sketch at all. It was supposed to be a “clip” from a (fictional) soap opera that Fallon, in his introduction, said he and Carell used to appear on together. However, Fallon admitted to Carell that there was one thing about that show that bothered Fallon then, and still does.
As you’ll see, Jimmy’s complaint had to do with the nature of Carell’s arms.
In Part One of the sketch, above, Fallon initially can’t help cracking up at the mere sight of Carell — a reaction we can relate to. We especially liked the way that the names of two of Timberlake’s former ‘NSync bandmates were worked into the sketch — Joey Fatone and Lance Bass.
In Part Two, below, the use of fake mannequin arms becomes even more ridiculous. And to Justin Timberlake’s credit, he maintains a straight face throughout.
