After testing the drama waters with a two-year stint on NBC’s “Smash,” series star Debra Messing is heading back to comedy.
The former “Will & Grace” star has signed on to star in a new CBS sitcom, according to Deadline. In addition to starring in the series, she will also serve as a co-executive producer.
The report says that the series will feature Messing starring as Ella, a 40-year-old women who “in order to successfully navigate through the demanding life of being a mother of three, a lover, a friend and a career woman, constantly lies her way out of and into situations — little lies, big lies, white and at times not-so-white lies.”
With the Broadway-based series struggling in ratings since returning to NBC this winter, “Smash” is not expected to be picked up for a third season, according to the article.
