‘Game of Thrones’ Actor Has Ear Bitten Off in Surprise Attack

Clive Mantle on "Game of Thrones" (Today)

Actor Clive Mantle, aka Lord Greatjon Umber on HBO’s hit series “Game of Thrones,” suffered a warlord-type injury when he had his ear bitten off after being attacked.

Mantle was involved in a hotel dispute, according to Today, and was attacked by a 32-year-old man who severed the upper part of his ear with his teeth. Mantle’s spokesperson said that the actor was “pinned to the floor” and was attacked after asking other guests to keep the noise down.

The BBC reports that one assailant has been charged and will appear in court next month. Another man involved in the incident was released on bail while a third was released without charge.

Mantle was in Newcastle where he was starring in a play, “The Ladykillers.” A publicist for the play told the BBC that they did not know when he would rejoin the cast, although Mantle was taken to the hospital where his ear was sewn back on.
