Julia Louis-Dreyfus called Jay Leno a name that was much worse than “troll” when he started hinting that he was about to show a clip from one of her early movies.

That movie happened to be called “Troll” and Julia reacted to the forthcoming clip by calling Leno an “ass—-” (it’s a word that rhymes with “troll” as a matter of fact) on “The Tonight Show” Monday night.

Julia leveled the “A-word” at Leno twice during the brief lead-up to the clip, and Leno reacted by just laughing and laughing.

In fact, his devil-may-care attitude about her reaction could even be interpreted as an indication of how Leno plans to conduct himself in the final year of his stint as “Tonight Show” host.

“How many times have you been on this show?” Jay asked Julia as they were getting into the subject of “Troll” and she had just realized he intended on showing a scene from it.

“A lot,” she answered.

“And we’ve never shown this. We’ve never talked about this,” Leno said.

“We never talked about it and there’s a reason for it!” she answered.

To which Leno replied: “But I’ve only got a little while left. I don’t care anymore!”

Shortly thereafter, she called him the name referenced above. “Tell them what the movie is about,” Leno requested.

And she answered: “Are you allowed to curse on this show? … You’re an ass[bleep]!”

They eventually got to the clip, which showed Julia and her husband, Brad Hall, in the movie. Released in 1986, “Troll” is described this way on the Internet Movie Database Web site: “A wicked troll king in search of a mystical ring that will return him to his human form invades a San Francisco apartment complex where a powerful witch lives.”

Julia, now 52, and her husband apparently played bit parts. Among the movie’s other cast members: Noah Hathaway, Michael Moriarty, Shelley Hack, Sonny Bono and June Lockhart. And here’s something curious: The characters played by Hathaway and Moriarty were named “Harry Potter” (Jr. and Sr., respectively).

We actually have a trailer for this movie — watch it here:

Louis-Dreyfus came on “The Tonight Show” to promote the season premiere this Sunday (April 14) of her HBO series “Veep.”
