‘Homeland’ Co-Star Not Returning as Regular for Season 3

With the focus of “Homeland‘s” third season shifting to Brody-on-the-lam and a reinstated Carrie trying to catch him clear his name, so shifts the screen time for several supporting players.

Deadline reports that David Marciano, who plays Carrie’s off-the-books sidekick Virgil, will not appear as a series regular for the upcoming third season of the Emmy-winning Showtime series. He may still pop up as a recurring character whenever new CIA boss Saul (Mandy Patinkin) calls on him, however.

For some reason, we will miss Virgil and his “mute” cousin Max driving around in a van like the Scooby gang, not to mention his loyalty to crazy-genius Carrie (Claire Danes).

On a similar note, Diego Klattenhoff (Mike Faber) will appear in a diminished capacity (and possibly completely phased out) next season now that he has signed on for NBC’s drama pilot, “The Blacklist.”

Season 2’s shockwaves already took out several key players, including David Harewood (CIA Honcho David Estes), Jamie Sheridan (Vice President Walden) and Navid Negahban (Abu Nazir), whose characters were killed off in addictively dramatic fashion.

All other main cast members, including Brody’s wife Jessica (Morena Baccarin), will be back in their regular capacity. (Yes, that probably means annoying angsty teen Dana too.)

Rupert Friend, a terrific Season 2 addition as Black Ops Agent Peter Quinn, is also confirmed to be back next season, while F. Murray Abraham’s old-school spook Dar Adal is also likely.

Season 3 of “Homeland” returns to Showtime in September.
