NBC has pulled next week’s episode of “Hannibal” in the wake of the Boston bombings, according to Variety.

The addictive TV prequel to pop culture’s most legendary serial killer had planned to air “Ceuf” as its fourth episode of the season, but the hour’s particularly disturbing content has led the network to shelve it. Molly Shannon (“Saturday Night Live”) guest stars against type as a malevolent character who brainwashes children into killing other children.

Those of you already caught in the grips of “Hannibal” who can’t wait for what comes next can fear not — there still will be a new episode on April 25 at 10/9c — episode 5, “Coquiles,” will air instead.

Due to the scheduling change, the first-season finale of “Hannibal” will air a week earlier on Thursday June 20.

The midseason drama, which stars Mads Mikkelsen, Hugh Dancy and Laurence Fishburne and comes from the brilliant mind of Bryan Fuller, is excellent, by the way, and is NBC’s best-reviewed new series of the season. Three episodes in, “Hannibal” has already developed a loyal following of staunch supporters, even if the ratings-challenged time slot isn’t doing the show any favors.

NBC’s “Hannibal” swap is the latest prime-time drama to pull an episode due to the Boston Marathon attacks. On Thursday, ABC bumped a bomb-themed episode of “Castle,” while Fox yanked a “Family Guy” episode from its website over its violent content that depicted a terrorist plotline.

“Hannibal” airs Thursdays at 10/9c on NBC.
