History buffs made a meal out of Sunday’s episode of “Mad Men.”
In the episode, Joan (played by Christina Hendricks) mentioned that she made reservations at restaurant Le Cirque. That innocent comment caused a frenzy, however, because the famed eatery was not yet opened. While the series takes place in the 60s, Le Cirque was actually opened by Sirio Maccioni in 1974.
Now, series creator Matthew Weiner is addressing the issue, stating during a discussion at The Paley Center for Media in New York that “We make mistakes,” according to CBS News.
“No, it was a terrible error,” he added, “and I think that the pleasure some people derive from this mistake makes it more entertainment for the show.”
Of course, Le Cirque didn’t mind the national attention. A publicist for the restaurant told The Hollywood Reporter: “Sirio would have been open if he knew that Joan wanted a reservation in 1968.”
