Meredith Vieira is setting her sights on a daytime TV comeback.
Vieira is reportedly filming a daytime talk-show pilot for NBC, sources confirm to Us Weekly exclusively. It’s been rumored for a while that Meredith has had a secret project in the works, but Us claims she’s actually shooting the pilot now.
Vieira’s proposed syndicated talk show would be similar in format to another “Today“-host-turned-talk-show-host, Katie Couric, according to Us. If the pilot gets picked up to series, Vieira fans could look for her back on TV sometime in 2014.
Considering the veteran TV journalist’s experience, we’d say, count on it. Besides her term as Couric’s replacement as “Today” show co-host beginning in 2006, Vieira spent nine years chatting it up as a co-host on “The View,” in addition to her various NBC News correspondent roles.
The New York Times’ Media Decoder blog first reported in January that Vieira was in talks for a new daytime show.
It’s been speculated for months that Vieira, 59, was planning her next career move, following her decision to move on from hosting “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire,” after an impressive 11-year run.
In March, it was announced that Vieira will be replaced by Cedric the Entertainer as host of the syndicated game show starting in September.
Upon first announcing her “Millionaire” departure earlier this year, Vieira teased in a statement, “I am about to embark on a new adventure with NBC.”
