The highly anticipated season finale of “Scandal” delivered on the hype.

The scandalous complications piling up for Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) continued to mount as the second season of the red-hot ABC soap from Shonda Rhimes came to a mind-blowing end on Thursday night.

Among the highlights everyone is talking about today: The show’s final scene, in which Olivia finds herself in a limousine sitting opposite a mysterious passenger. It’s shadowy CIA Operative Rowan (Joe Morton). She looks at him, surprised, and says, “Dad?!”

“Scandal’s” Joe Morton Reveals He Was the Only Actor to Know He Was Playing Olivia Pope’s Papa!

The paternal bombshell came moments after Olivia and Fitz’s secret was exposed to the world, as Olivia was besieged by the overzealous press, shouting questions about her affair with the President of the United States.

Uh Oh: Olivia and Fitz’s Secret Is Out!

Other Season-Finale Bombshells:

~Cyrus has a heart attack, but that doesn’t stop him from busting up Olivia and Fitz! He exposed the star-crossed lovers’ own secrets to each other by revealing to Liv that Fitz murdered Verna, and by revealing Olivia’s sex tape with Jake (Scott Foley) to Fitz. Jake, by the way, was tossed in an underground cell in a secret CIA prison — by Rowan (who, again, is Olivia’s FATHER) — for disobeying his orders. What orders were those? Killing Olivia!

~When it’s discovered that Billy “The Mole” Chambers had a fake citron card in his possession and David Rosen (Joshua Malina) had the real one, he brokered a deal with Cyrus, handing over the card in exchange for a plum new gig: attorney general of Washington D.C.

If you watched the show when it aired on ABC Thursday night, then you were among 9.076 million viewers who did so, according to Nielsen overnight ratings released Friday morning. It was the show’s highest viewership tally yet. And yes, “Scandal” will be back next fall.
