Cast members Rex Lee and Alan Tudyk will not be back next season on ABC’s “Suburgatory” due to cost cuts afflicting the sitcom, reported late Friday.

The story said the two — who were among this series’ eight regular cast members — are being cut loose because the series was being faced with budget constraints following a renewal for a third season that almost didn’t happen.

According to the story, “Suburgatory” was on the fence between cancellation and renewal until ABC decided — seemingly at the last minute — to continue the show. The decision reportedly was made just as the network was putting the finishing touches on its new fall lineup earlier this month.

But the renewal came at a price, the story said. Apparently, in return for the third-season renewal, the makers of “Suburgatory” were forced to accept lower fees for the show from ABC. As a result, costs had to be reined in, and these two cast members are reportedly taking the fall.

The Deadline story said the possibility remains open for Lee and Tudyk to make occasional guest appearances on the show, but for now, their characters will no longer be seen regularly on the series.
