“Yes, I am a lesbian,” the 21-year-old singer confirmed during a tearful TV interview Sunday night on the Filipino talk show “The Buzz.”
The Filipino pop star, who’s had a recurring role on “Glee,” explained her decision to speak publicly about her sexuality: “I have deep gratitude for the Filipinos because they are the ones who know who I really am. … I don’t know what the problem is because for me, there is no problem with that.”
Charice also revealed that she’s currently estranged from her mother and grandmother, who are having a difficult time accepting her sexual orientation, and then apologized to any fans who may be offended.
“To those who can accept me, thank you very, very much,” she continued. “I just want to say to all of you that I feel very light – that I can leave the house knowing I am not hiding anything.”
“Now I feel free,” she added.
