It was totally the saxophone. You can be a borderline generic country singer and still find an audience in this nation. But play the sax—and poorly at that—and be prepared to say goodbye.

On Monday night, Holly Tucker played a sloppy scale on “The Voice,” and on Tuesday, she was sent home, finally cracking Team Blake’s armor.

Blake Shelton is now down to two singers—still double anyone else’s team roster. It was his first loss in the finals, and honestly, it came way late.

It was nice to see Blake taken down a notch at the end of the episode, since it was a big night for his ego, and he was a little tipsy off of the “fake Starbucks” Carson Daly accused him of drinking. Last season’s winner and Blake’s protégé, Cassadee Pope came by to perform her new single, “Wasting All These Tears.” It was as Avril Lavigne as a song can get, but Blake was a beaming papa bear throughout.

With six left in the game, we got three duets from the contestants. Two of them paid homage to big ‘80s girl hits: Michelle Chamuel and Sasha Allen sang “Open Your Heart,” and Danielle Bradbery and Amber Carrington did “Eternal Flame.” But Swon Brothers and Holly Tucker ruined the theme with a 2006 song, “Leave the Pieces.”

The coaches all had their little chat with Carson at the top of the show, and more and more, Shakira is coming across as this adorable little sprightly thing. She tells Carson that since the performance show, she read some press about Sasha being the “big next thing.”

“I believe everything I read,” she added.

Usher talked to Carson only in the royal we. “We’re proud, we’re happy, we’re humble,” he said. “This is our first time in this saddle.”

Instead of a confessional, we were treated to a video of the contestants touring the tornado destruction in Moore, Oklahoma, where they meet with a Starbucks regional director, as one does on the scene of a natural disaster.

The elimination: In order of safety were Michelle, Sasha, Danielle, Amber and Swon. That left Holly Tucker, who looked none too happy with the verdict.
