Producers Don’t Recall Obama Ricin Suspect in Their Shows

Is this Shannon Richardson? Who knows? AMC didn't identify the actor in this photo of a zombie on "The Walking Dead" (Photo: AMC)

The top producers for “The Walking Dead” and “The Vampire Diaries” say they don’t remember Shannon Richardson, the Texas woman arrested for sending ricin-laced letters addressed to President Obama at the White House.

The reason the producers are speaking out: The news stories about the woman’s arrest all say she was an actress who had appeared, apparently as an extra, in both shows.

Of course, we can’t expect these showrunners to remember everyone who came on their sets to play background zombies (“Walking Dead”) and vampires (“Vampire Diaries”), particularly because (a) there are so many of them (especially in “The Walking Dead”) and (b) these extra roles require so much heavy makeup that there’s no way the actors in these roles would be recognizable out of costume.

So the producers took to Twitter to disavow any knowledge about this woman, according to this story on the Hollywood Reporter Web site.

“Some actress from TWD sent ricin letters to the Prez? Never heard of her. Anyone know what role she played?” asked “Walking Dead” showrunner Greg Mazzara in a Tweet.

“Vampire Diaries” executive producer Julie Plec responded to him on Twitter. “If she played an equivalent part to one she supposedly played on TVD, she was third background from the right. Or something,” Plec wrote.

This episode of “The Vampire Diaries” is actually titled “The Walking Dead” — watch:
