Viewers eager to find out what, exactly, happened to “Scandal” operative Jake Ballard in that horrible hole will be happy to learn that Ballard appears to be in for the long haul on the hit series.

Actor Scott Foley, who plays Ballard, has been promoted to a series regular for the third season of the series, after a run as a recurring guest star, according to Deadline.

“I’m thrilled to join such a talented, enthusiastic and professional group of people,” Foley said in a statement to the site. “Shonda and company have created a troupe of layered complex characters and to be able to be part of that is both exciting and humbling.”

“Scandal” is set to return to ABC on Thursdays this fall.
