Lorna Elizabeth Tuck Colbert, the mother of Stephen Colbert of “The Colbert Report,” died Wednesday at the age of 92, according to The Post and Courier.
Her obituary lists her as “an adored wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In addition to being the matriarch of a family of 82, Lorna Colbert was an accomplished artist, a church leader, a businesswoman, a supporter of the arts and a woman whose profound faith was apparent in her daily life.”
Lorna Colbert had 11 children, and tragically saw three family members, including her husband, die in a plane crash in 1974. She is now survived by her remaining eight kids, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Last February, Stephen Colbert canceled two shows after his mother fell ill.
“Evidentially, having 11 children makes you tough as nails,” Colbert said of his mother at the time.
