Jennifer Lopez appears poised to return to the “American Idol” judges’ panel as TV’s long-running granddaddy of competition shows prepares for its 13th season.
But, says this story on the Hollywood Reporter Web site, she and the show have hit an impasse over money.
J.Lo, who was a judge on “Idol” in 2011 and 2012, skipped last season. But according to the THR story, the show’s producers — under the leadership of newly installed show-runner Per Blankens — want her back.
The problem is, she reportedly wants more money per season than the $15 million she was paid for each of her previous seasons on the show. The reason (other than just wanting a raise): The star who replaced her last season — Mariah Carey — reportedly earned $18 million for her “Idol” season and J.Lo reportedly is asking for at least that amount.
Meanwhile, Will.i.am of Black Eyed Peas is reportedly high on the list of candidates for one of the “Idol” judging posts, THR says. He’s been a coach on the U.K. version of “The Voice” and might be ready for a change, the story suggests.
Also on the list of potential judges: Jennifer Hudson. In addition, the THR story says Keith Urban will likely return to the show. The judges’ positions are open following the off-season exits of Nicki Minaj, Carey and long-timer Randy Jackson.
The new season of “American Idol” will premiere, as always, in January.
