“Hot Pockets” comedian Jim Gaffigan is developing a New York-based sitcom for CBS, reports The Hollywood Reporter here.
The show apparently represents a vote of confidence on the part of CBS for the 47-year-old stand-up comic who’s perhaps best known for the routines he does about the Hot Pockets brand of frozen snacks.
According to the THR story, Gaffigan had a comedy series in contention this past winter and spring to be picked up by CBS for this fall.
But for reasons that aren’t specified, CBS passed. But the network is still backing a reworked show.
Gaffigan’s show is tentatively titled “The McCarthys.” It’s a family sitcom based on his own life — a man who lives in New York City with his wife and five children. Helping him rescue the show: Producer Peter Tolan, who worked on comedian Denis Leary’s firefighter drama, “Rescue Me,” on FX.
The THR story says the revised show will compete for a spot on the CBS lineup some time in the 2014-15 season.
