When “The Hills” went off the air in July 2010, the final scene showed an emotional Kristin Cavallari saying goodbye to Brody Jenner (“Keeping Up with the Kardashians“) before she left for Europe — as a stripped down version of Natasha Bedingfield’s “Unwritten” played in the background, of course. Moments later, Cavallari’s town car stopped, she got out, and the camera crew emerged — alluding to the idea that the MTV reality show had been, at times, semi-scripted.

The network re-aired the popular season this summer, and on Friday, Aug. 9, it debuted an alternate ending to the show that made Heidi Montag a star. In this version, Jenner still bids Cavallari farewell — but instead of the soundstage reveal, it cuts to Jenner revisiting his ex, Lauren Conrad.

“Where you been?” Conrad asks. “I was just saying goodbye to a friend of mine,” Jenner replies.
“You okay?” Conrad continues. “Yeah, I’m all right,” Jenner says.
“It’s hard to say goodbye,” Conrad reasons. “Yeah,” Jenner agrees. “It is.”
