Have you seen the teaser clip for the Marvin Gaye biopic “Sexual Healing”? I just watched it and I’m a bit perplexed. “Sexual Healing” seems to focus on the turbulent final years leading up to Gaye’s death. What about the rest of his life? The hit duets with Tammi Terrell, how his music influenced a generation, the iconic “What’s Going On” album? Nada. A few die-hard Gaye fans are crying foul, comparing the movie to Zoe Saldana’s Nina Simone biopic. Yes, Jesse L. Martin looks like Gaye and he can sing but some weren’t impressed by what they saw. Nor were some happy with newcomer Dwight Henry’s casting as Marvin Gay Sr. (Should the role have gone to Clarke Peters, who’s also in the movie?) According to IndieWire.com, “Sexual Healing” is slated for an April 1, 2014 release, the 30th anniversary of Gaye’s death and the day before what would’ve been his 75th birthday. I don’t know about this one. [Watch here]
Here’s what else is happening.
Giancarlo Esposito talks “Revolution” and playing bad guys: Giancarlo Esposito’s Capt. Tom Neville on NBC’s “Revolution” makes you want to throw something at the screen. Yep, his bad guy portrayal in J.J. Abram’s post-apocalyptic series is that convincing. I remember having a similar feeling watching him in Spike Lee’s “School Daze.” And I can pretty much guess how “Breaking Bad” fans felt seeing him as Gus Fring. But there’s more to Esposito, I mean, he and Big Bird used to be real tight. Check out his “Today” interview with Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb to see what he’s up to and his Big Bird connection.

New “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” promo raises questions: “She must not know who the hell I am,” NeNe Leakes said in a “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” season six promo. Don’t worry NeNe, we do! And that’s why so many people are counting down the return of this American guilty pleasure (It’s Nov. 3). The trailer also shows some obvious things: Phaedra Parks’ new baby, Kenya Moore’s eviction debacle, blah, blah. One promo moment that’s gained buzz is Porsha Stewart’s comment about her soon-to-be ex-hubby Kordell Stewart. “Kordell didn’t necessarily want me physically and that made me wonder what does he want?” she said, reigniting gay rumors about the ex-NFLer (and rumors that most men in the ATL are gay. Not true!). And in another scene, it seems Leakes had to get Moore straight, perhaps prompting the earlier comment. Here we go! [Watch here]
No good deed goes unpunished: You know how much I like to smile and waking up this morning to this story did just that. Boston homeless man Glen James, 54, is being called “remarkable” after finding a bag full of money and turning it in to police. Just as lovely is the 27-year-old Virginia man, Ethan Whittington, who set up an Internet fund for James that raised nearly $100,000 over two days. And donations continue to pour in. Makes your heart glow, right? Check out this “CBS This Morning” story to learn more about James. [Watch here]
The Hot List: Who/What’s Hot, Not
NOT: The Beverly Hills police sergeant who allegedly made obscene comments while gawking at Whitney Houston’s nude corpse (Really, dude?).
HOT: Ethan Whittington and people who donated money to homeless inspiration Glen James (Smile).
NOT: The upcoming fight scenes for Bravo’s latest reality drama “The New Atlanta” (Ughh!).
HOT: Sanaa Lathan, who turns 42 today (She looks fab. See her in Starz’s “Boss”).
