Lester Holt is a face that is a part of my childhood. As a Chicago native, I remember watching him anchor the news on the local CBS affiliate, WBBM-Channel 2. I can still recall vividly the holiday greetings spots he and his family did like the station’s other personalities. Time really does fly because over the weekend, NBC’s “Weekend Today” celebrated Holt’s 10th anniversary anchoring the broadcast. And while the 54-year-old’s a bit more grayer and without his mustache (the facial hair “ban” is ridiculous) he pretty much looks the same. Holt also is the weekend host of “NBC Nightly News” and hosts “Dateline NBC.” “[Holt] personifies everything we would want anybody in this building to be,” “Today” host Matt Lauer said. And others from the NBC family called him a “true journalist” and “dedicated.” I’m inclined to agree with Holt’s coworkers. He’s a solid journalist. Whether he’s jamming with Earth, Windy & Fire or covering civil unrest in Egypt or natural disasters, his delivery is balanced and one that’s easily received. Unfortunately, that can’t be said about everyone. The anniversary tribute is touching and I’ve outlined five things that stood out to me about Holt that you may not know (I would do 10 but then you’d be without an incentive to watch the video).
He’s afraid of snakes. Apparently, anyone watching “Weekend Today” with any regularity will know this.
He’s a bass player. The male members of an iconic TV show were his idols and influenced him to play bass (Watch the video to see which TV show and the star’s response)
He’s a “ginormous” plane nerd. I was unaware that Holt was that interested let alone has his pilot’s license.
He has Jamaican roots. His maternal grandparents were born on the Caribbean island.
He’s pretty athletic. Know this: If Holt’s doing a story on an athlete, he’ll try that sport.
Find out more about Holt and his 10 years with “Weekend Today” below.

Bruno Mars has four talented sisters: This looks cute. We Tv will debut a reality show, “The Lylas,” featuring the four lovely sisters of Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Bruno Mars. The Lylas are a singing quartet who are preparing to leave their native Hawaii for Los Angeles to launch their own music career. The show will observe their personal and professional struggles as they step outside of their famous brother’s shadow. It premieres at 9 p.m. EST on November 8. Check out the promo. [Watch here]
“SNL’s” back! : In case you missed “Saturday Night Live’s” 39th season premiere, check it out! (Gosh, 39 years?! My dad has an “SNL” 15th anniversary T-shirt) I won’t give it all away but will note that the Obamacare cold open was sort of funny (Jay Pharoah does a good Obama) and the parody of HBO’s “Girls” (Tina Fey, who hosted Saturday’s show, was the new girl Blerta from Albania) earned a few laughs. Fingers crossed that “SNL” will bring more laughs this year. With exception of a few hits like Fey’s Sarah Palin spoofs the past decade or so has been kind of lacking and makes me yearn for reboots of “In Living Color,” “The Chris Rock Show” or “Mad TV.” [Watch here]
On my watchlist tonight? What I’m tuning in to see and what I’ll catch up with XFINITY On Demand with…
“Sleepy Hollow”: Nicole Beharie really is a standout on this show. And I love that her character just … is. Looking forward to episode three tonight. [Watch here]
“Once Upon a Time”: I missed the third season premiere but look forward to seeing their search for Neverland. [Watch here]
“Boardwalk Empire”: As you can see, I missed all of my Sunday shows. But never fear, XFINITY is here. [Watch here]
The Hot List: Who/What’s Hot, Not
HOT: Veteran rapper MC Lyte receiving the “I am Hip-Hop Award” during the “BET Hip-Hop Awards” Saturday(Lyte is one of the dopest female emcees. To be honest, she’s better than a lot of dudes out there too. IJS.)
NOT: The man who shot and killed a Louisiana pastor while preaching (Unsure of the motivation but it’s clear that two lives are now wasted).
HOT: Rapper Rick Ross shedding a few pounds (Good for you, baby!).
NOT: Rapper Rick Ross insisting on baring his moobs and jiggly belly at every available opportunity (Hey, Notorious B.I.G. didn’t have to strip to sell albums).
HOT: The cast of Showtime’s “Soul Food” gathering for former co-star Rockmond Dunbar, now starring on CBS’s “The Mentalists,” and wife Maya Gilbert’s baby shower (Loved this show and love that they’re such good friends).
NOT: North Carolina police profiling Hollywood actors Dennis White and Cherie Johnson for no apparent reason (This whole thing was ridiculous!).
