A&E’s “Duck Dynasty” continued its dominance in the cable ratings Wednesday night with a new episode that drew 8.3 million viewers — incredible numbers for a reality-TV series on cable.

It was par for the course for this popular series — an audience tally that was big enough to place “Duck Dynasty” among the highest-rated shows on TV Wednesday night — cable AND broadcast. For example, the show’s audience was not too far from the viewership for “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” on CBS (8.82 million) and “The Middle” on ABC (8.25 million). The night’s highest-rated show, in total viewers, was “Criminal Minds” on CBS — 10.98 million.
“Duck Dynasty” also did well its target audience: 4.2 million viewers in the demo — adults 25-54.
What drew this huge audience? A half-hour show about a bunch of bearded men in Louisiana and their efforts to manufacture homemade jerky. Of course, as every “Duck Dynasty” fan well knows, simple procedures such as, in this case, the drying of meat, are never so simple on this show.
