I caught “Boardwalk Empire” last night and while there were definitely a few memorable moments —Sally Wheet and Nucky Thompson kicking each others asses before getting it in was crazy — another intense exchange involved the married Chalky White and blues singer Daughter Maitland. We knew they wanted each other. But it seemed odd to see Chalky with that type of pent-up desire because he seems so careful and controlled, almost asexual. I mean, yes, he’s married with two adult children, and we’ve seen him interacting with his family but I was unable to recall him engaging with his wife or another woman romantically until last night. While we’ve lost count of the number of women Nucky’s bedded, Chalky came off to me as serious and careful about protecting his familial image. In other words, mistresses and the possible drama isn’t worth it — until Daughter Maitland hit the stage (Note, doesn’t she look like a younger, saucier version of his wife?). We’ll see what will come of this new relationship. She’s associated with Dr. Valentin Narcisse, who seems more foe than friend to Chalky, and next week’s promo shows Chalky and her in bed with her telling him he was her man. Look, Chalky, don’t get caught up. “Boardwalk Empire” airs at 9 p.m. EST Sundayon HBO. Watch it here.
Here’s what else is happening …
Did you hear about “MasterChef” finalist Josh Marks? The 26-year-old, who was the third season runner-up, fatally shot himself Friday after being diagnosed with schizophrenia 24 hours earlier. His mother said the stress of dealing with another mental illness — he’s also bipolar– was too much for him. There’s been a lot of stories of black Americans with mental health issues in the news lately. We’ve got to talk about it. Read the rest of the story here. In other reality TV news … It seems the “Tardy for the Party” drama may be over. A judge sided with former “Real Housewives of Atlanta’s” Kim Zolciak agreeing that cast member Kandi Burruss’ lawsuit filed against the blonde was a publicity stunt for her now-defunct show “The Kandi Factory.” Remember, Kandi worked with Kim to make the single a catchy hit but didn’t enter a sound contract to get paid. I never understood why Kandi, an entertainer and business woman worth at least $35 million, didn’t handle her business with Kim. Watch here when the two first met to discuss the song. Speaking of Georgia peaches, fame novelist Alice Walker will publish “Gathering Blossoms Under Fire,” selections from her personal journals that she’s kept for the past 50 years. The book will release in 2017 and given Ms. Walkers revealing nature, I’m sure it’ll be a good, eyebrow-raising read. In the meantime, watch “The Color Purple,” based on Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, here. In case you missed it, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds’ received a star on the “The Hollywood Walk of Fame” last week. He was surrounded by his family and industry veterans like Sean “Diddy” Combs, LA Reid and Usher Raymond. Plus he and Toni Braxton have a new album coming soon. A return of -style R&B? Sounds nice!

The Hot List: Who/What’s Hot, Not
HOT:American Ballet Theatre soloist Misty Copeland featured on “Italian Vogue’s” site (The photos are stunning!)
NOT:Minnesota Viking Adrian Peterson’s son, 2, dies after brutal attack allegedly by mother’s boyfriend, Joseph Patterson (Never understood how people can hurt babies).
HOT: Black Girls Rock! honoring ladies who are great role models (A great, fun concept!)
NOT:“Atlanta Exes,” yet another Atlanta-based reality TV show (OK, this one doesn’t seem too bad; Kevin Hart’s ex-wife Torrei Hart is funny but enough already!)
HOT: Nude shoes that match various skin tones a la Christian Louboutin’s new ‘nude’ line (I was on the hunt for classic pumps in my nude tone for the past several weeks).
NOT: “X-Men” producer John Palermo’s racist rant on Facebook where he targets gays, blacks and Asians (He says he wanted to spark dialogue about racism in Hollywood. A roundtable discussion or documentary didn’t come to mind?!)
