It was the kind of bit that only the “Letterman” show could produce: An assembly of 10 New York sports legends who each agreed to come out on-stage and deliver an item on a “Top Ten” list.

That’s what happened Monday night on David Letterman’s “Late Show” on CBS, as Dave saluted Madison Square Garden with a “Top Ten” titled “Top Ten Career Highlights at Madison Square Garden.”

In the clip — above — you’ll see 10 athletes who have all experienced great career moments at the famed sports and entertainment venue in New York City.

The 10 were: Walt “Clyde” Frazier (Knicks basketball), Rod Gilbert (Rangers hockey), Larry Johnson (Knicks), Adam Graves (Rangers), John Starks (Knicks), Gerry Cooney (boxing), Bill Bradley (Knicks), Henrik Lundqvist (Rangers), Carmelo Anthony (Knicks) and, in the No. 1 position, tennis great John McEnroe.

A few examples from the list:

“No. 8 (Larry Johnson): ‘The day I finally learned ‘Knicks’ was short for ‘Knickerbockers’!”

And “No. 7 (Adam Graves): ‘It’s a tie. Winning the Stanley Cup in 1994, and ‘Disney on Ice’!”
