Lowe had just confirmed that he’ll soon leave the NBC sitcom, along with co-star Rashida Jones.
The two, who play a couple on the series, will film their farewell episode in two weeks, Lowe told Letterman.
But when it came to revealing the reasons why the two are leaving, Lowe wasn’t specific, and he and Letterman got into their exchange about Poehler that ended with Dave aiming his middle finger at Lowe.
“I was originally on for six episodes … [that] was the plan,” Lowe said when he and Letterman first started talking about “Parks and Rec.”
And then, Lowe said, “six episodes turned into 88 episodes.”
“But is it true that you’re leaving the show?” Letterman asked.
And Lowe said yes. “Rashida Jones and I — my ‘baby mama’ on the TV show — we’re saying good-bye. We’re shooting that episode actually in two weeks,” said Lowe, who also suggested the two could return for guest appearances.
“But there must be harsh feelings,” Dave said jokingly (we assume). “Harsh feelings … Isn’t that why you’re being thrown off?”
“Dave, I don’t like to get into it publicly, but we hate each other,” Lowe said, though it wasn’t certain who he was talking about — Jones or Poehler (who is arguably the show’s top star).
“Amy Poehler has deeply offended both of us,” Lowe clarified, “and we’re not having it. I have boundaries!”
He then said, “Amy Poehler’s a pr—! What are you going to do?”
“That’s not true — she’s a wonderful woman. You’re a lyin’ [SOB]!” said Dave, who then gestured at his guest with his middle digit, which was pixellated.
