By sheer coincidence, a puzzle answer on “Wheel of Fortune” Monday night was “The Fast and the Furious” — only days after Paul Walker, one of the stars of the movie series, was killed in a horrible car crash on Saturday.
It was a jarring answer to see on the show, even though the episode was filmed weeks ago in October, long before the tragic accident that killed the 40-year-old action-movie star this past weekend.
The answer, in the category of “movie title,” was seen in the show’s “Final Spin” segment on Monday, according to this story.
Recognizing that the answer threatened to stun viewers, who would then question why the answer was on the show so soon after Walker’s fiery death, producers tweeted an advisory some time on Monday.
“The show that included the puzzle ‘The Fast and The Furious’ was taped on 10/4/13. It’s an unfortunate coincidence that it aired tonight,” the tweet said.
Later, a tweet showed up that expressed the show’s condolences to Walker’s family and friends. “The hearts of everyone at Wheel of Fortune go out to the family, friends & fans of Paul Walker,” said this tweet.
“Wheel” host Pat Sajak even issued a tweet of his own: “Feel terrible about timing of ‘Fast & Furious’ puzzle tonight,” Sajak wrote. “Taped long ago & went out to 200 local stations days ago,” he explained.
