Get your DVR ready to work overtime tonight, there are too many movies and TV shows on at the same time! In the battle for the 8pm hour are new episodes of “The Big Bang Theory” on CBS and “Community” on NBC. If you’re watching the latter (I am!), expect to see everyone up in arms when an anonymous bandit starts dropping coins down people’s pants. While Dean Pelton (Jim Rash) mobilizes the school to investigate, Jeff (Joel McHale) and Annie (Alison Brie) pursue their own theories – methodically interrogating staff members. When someone eventually confesses, the school heaves a sigh of relief, but Jeff thinks there is more to the story than meets the eye.
At 9pm you have the choice between comedy on NBC with “Sean Saves The World” or drama on USA with “White Collar.” Again, I’ll opt for the latter because who could turn down a full hour with hottie Matt Bomer? Neal Caffrey (Bomer) will find himself working with Hagen (Mark Sheppard) again. Little does he know that doing so will leave a life in peril.
You have a choice between “Elementary” on CBS and “Parenthood” on NBC during the 10pm slot. This time I will opt for the former because I love the chemistry between Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and Dr. Joan Watson (Lucy Liu). In episode 13 of season 2 entitled, “All in the Family,” a body is found in a barrel and the investigation leads Holmes and Watson to look into the Mafia’s ties to the murder. Meanwhile, Sherlock tries to make amends with Detective Bell (Jon Michael Hill).
If you rather watch a movie, two of my favorite are airing tonight. Esquire network is showing the “Three Amigos” at 9pm and Ovation has “La Bamba” on at 8pm. A few years ago, I attended San Diego Comic Con and Chevy Chase was there promoting “Community.” I remember geeking out because I was a huge fan since watching “Three Amigos” on the big screen in 1986. Sadly when I told him about how much I loved the film, he said, “Really?” On the other hand, when I met Lou Diamond Phillips at Hispanicize 2013 he just couldn’t have been nicer. Guess which movie I’m picking?!
In the 1987 film “La Bamba,” Phillips portrays the real life story of Ritchie Valens— a young rocker who died in a 1959 plane crash alongside Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper. Co-stars include Esai Morales, Rosanna DeSoto, Elizabeth Peña, Danielle von Zerneck, and Joe Pantoliano.
