‘Being Mary Jane’s’ Top 3 Moments, ‘Ride Along’ Sequel Greenlit, What’s Hot/Not & More

Fidelity seemed to be the name of the game on the latest episode of BET’s “Being Mary Jane.” It’s actually been the theme from jump, particularly looking at Mary Jane Paul’s extracurricular activities. But our heroine had to put her big girl panties on and make some grown up decisions last night. I’ve spied three top moments from the episode and if you watched, you may agree. Late to the “Being Mary Jane” bandwagon? No worries, it airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EST on BET. Catch up on past episodes here.

Mary Jane told her mother about her affair. One of MJ’s biggest fears was that the people she loves and respects the most–her parents and close friends–would discover she’s having an affair with a married man, Andre Daniels, and judge her severely. So it was a bit surprising yet relieving when she told her mother, Helen. A few episodes back, Helen expressed disdain for mistresses. But when MJ cuddled up to her and blurted out her secret, Helen responded, “Cry about it tonight. Because you have to make it right in the the morning. That’s all.” She then held her baby girl closer. That was it. No judgment. Love it!

Mary Jane broke up with Andre.  She must’ve cried about it in the car on the way home because she broke it off with Andre as soon as he walked into her house. There were too many loose ends unraveling uncontrollably. I do believe he loved her, despite she telling him he didn’t (it is possible to love more than one person at a time, you know). And she says she loved him. When he asked about her ex-boyfriend David, who she saw recently, she said the breakup isn’t because of him. Yet, when he was grilling her about David earlier in the show, she never disclosed that he’s moved on. Hmm…Are MJ and Andre really over? Are David and his new model girlfriend really as tight as he made it seem? We have to check back next week for the two-episode finale to find out.

Helen asks her husband if he’s having an affair. We know the sharks have been circling for a while and last week we saw one, Katherine Stafford, subtly make a play for her husband, Paul Sr., in front of her. Bold.  But Mama Patterson, who’s battling lupus, handled it Olivia Pope style. And this week after asking Paul if he’s dipping out, he assured her he wasn’t. And then, they made love.  Septuagenarians getting it in–gives all us youngins something to look forward to. :-)

Here’s what else is happening…

“Ride Along” sequel greenlit. The success of “Ride Along” has compelled studios to OK part two. And stars Kevin Hart and Ice Cube have already signed up. “’Ride Along’ has topped $117 million in the U.S. after five weekends, starting its run with three consecutive third-place finishes. The film was budgeted at $25 million,” according to Variety. In addition to the stars, director Tim Story and producer Will Packer will return. This is good news and with this film’s success, perhaps it’ll inspire more variety and creativity aimed at black-oriented projects. Also, be sure to check out XFINITY’s interviews with the Hart, Ice Cube, Story and Packer here.

Our guest editor Wayne Brady visits “The View.” The talented entertainer opined about the “loud music” murder trial, explaining that shooting and Trayvon Martin’s death makes him “fearful as a black man.” Co-host Whoopi Goldberg ensured him it’s going to get better.” Love her optimism! He also talked about the “amazing show,” the “BET Honors,” that airs on Monday, Feb. 24. “It let’s us celebrate our finest,” Brady explained. He also chatted about “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” coming back with host Aisha Tyler. Watch it here.  Want to read Brady baring his soul to XFINITY? Check out the Q&A I did with him here.

On my watchlist? What I’m tuning in to see and what I’ll catch up with XFINITY On Demand…
“Legend of the Seeker”: I enjoyed this show so much the first time around that I occasionally watch past episodes. It’d be lovely if it came back for a third season but that seems to be wishful thinking. Check it out here.

“Revolution”: I got behind on this show and am catching up again. It airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EST on NBC. Watch it here.

The Hot List: Who/What’s Hot, Not
HOT: Barbara Walters still has the need for sexual stimulation per her revealing that she uses a vibrator at 84 (Nothing replaces a live human being but it’s good she’s “feeling” herself!).
NOT: That Wayne Brady or anyone for that matter has to be fearful for just minding their business and being themselves in this country (…).

HOT: Jada Pinkett-Smith starring in Fox’s “Gotham,” which is based on the “Batman” story. (Good for you, girl!).
NOT: Cee-Lo Green  quits NBC’s “The Voice.” (Say it ain’t so!).
