Happy Wednesday y’all! Some of the headlines making the rounds today: Michael Strahan’s presence with ABC continues to grow, Samuel L. Jackson’s recent late night TV show visit proves he’s still very cool and a new teaser for Halle Berry’s CBS thriller “Extant” is available. Check it all out plus more.
Michael Strahan confirms joining “GMA” part time. Hmm…this could’ve been a plan already underway but it wouldn’t surprise me if this decision was made in the wake of Josh Elliot leaving the ABC morning show for NBC Sports. With the recent departure of weatherman Sam Champion (he left in December of the Weather Channel) and now Josh, “GMA’s” overflowing with estrogen (not necessarily a bad thing). Amy Robach, who’s been promoted to news anchor, co-hosts Robin Roberts and Lara Spencer remain with George Stephanopoulos, currently the show’s only male presence. Do you think Michael should ditch “Live with Kelly and Michael” for a permanent spot on “GMA”? If this test run goes well, I think he will. Read more here.
CBS releases new “Extant” promo. We’re about three months away from the debut of Halle Berry’s new CBS sci-fi drama, “Extant,” and the network’s continuing to reel us in. I’ve stumbled upon a new 10-second long promo featuring a visibly frightened Berry as astronaut Molly Watts (the promo refers to her as Molly Woods), who went on a 13-month solo mission (wwhat scared the crap out of her?). The voice-over says “she will not return alone.” Creepy! Molly is “trying to reconnect with her family after returning from a year in outer space,” according to a CBS press release. “Her mystifying experiences in space lead to events that will ultimately change the course of human history.” I don’t know about you but I’m getting an “Aliens” vibe here. My guess, and it’s pretty obvious from the prenatal ultrasound in the promo, is that she’s probably pregnant. With what and by what? Probably that same think that had her spooked. Eek! Steven Spielberg’s executive producing this mystery thriller and while it goes without saying, I hope it’s good. “Extant” debuts July 9. Watch the promo below.
The awesomeness that is Samuel L. Jackson. Mr. Awesome visited “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” last night, performing a slam poem about ’90s ABC sitcom “Boy Meets World” (used to watch this) and discussing his travels, the “I’m Not Laurence Fishburne” T-shirt (‘memba that reporter’s mix-up?) he recently donned and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” His spoken word performance was pretty good, especially since he never saw “Boy Meets World.” But are we surprised? No. I’ve been a fan of his for many, many years. I first remember seeing him in Spike Lee’s “School Daze” (no, he didn’t play Dap, that was Laurence Fishburne!) and again in “Coming to America.” They were smaller roles but very memorable. Now 20-odd years and dozens upon dozens of films later he’s etched a spot as one of Hollywood’s go-to actors. Check him out on “The Tonight Show’ below.
On my watchlist? What I’m tuning in to see and what I’ll catch up with XFINITY On Demand…
“True Blood”: All of this talk about Watchathon Week has me reminiscing about this HBO series and its forthcoming final season. I’m going to rewatch the season 6 finale. Watch it here.
“Orphan Black”: This show is another Watchathon pick. If you haven’t seen it, get on it! Season 2 debuts April 19. It will air Saturdays at 9 p.m. EST on BBC America. Watch it here.
The Hot List: Who/What’s Hot, Not
HOT: Singers Erykah Badu, Solange Knowles and Ledisi each covering Essence magazine’s May issue (Though Erykah’s had a couple of covers, it’s great to see some fresh faces on the front. Kudos!)
NOT: The reported fight that broke out between cast mates Kenya Moore and Porsha Williams during “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” reunion show taping (C’mon, y’all are too damn old for this.).
HOT: Kwasi Enin, 17, being accepted into all eight Ivy League universities (Congrats!).
NOT: “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta” star Benzino being stabbed by his nephew Gai Scott while driving in his mother’s funeral procession (You can’t make this stuff up!).
