Here’s what’s cooking today: Katt Williams, officially out of retirement, will tape an HBO comedy special and Shonda Rhimes sets the record straight about recasting Harrison Wright on “Scandal.” Plus, there’s my watchlist and what’s hot (Michelle Obama’s latest tweet) and not (Jet magazine folding print edition). Enjoy!
Katt Williams returns to HBO. I’ve learned to ignore when celebs claim they’re retiring as comedian Katt Williams proclaimed two years ago. They also seem to find their way back to the spotlight, ahem, Jay Z. Well, Williams will tape an hour-long comedy special for HBO next week in Ontario, Calif. Spike Lee will direct and it’s set to debut later this year, according to an HBO press release. Williams’ last HBO special, “The Pimp Chronicles Pt. 1,” aired in 2006. He also appeared on “Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam.” Given the crazy last couple of years Katt’s had, this is good for him (‘memba that Target malaise?) and his fans. A lot of people like Katt Williams and longed for him to pick up the mic again. He is humorous. Katt visited “The Arsenio Hall Show” last week and seemed more honest, accountable and, of course, funny. But don’t just take my word for it, watch Katt talk about his retirement, the lessons he’s learned and what went down at Target below.
Shonda Rhimes: Won’t recast Harrison Wright. There’s been a lot of speculation over who will be recast as Harrison Wright on ABC’s “Scandal” since Columbus Short left the show two weeks ago. Larenz Tate and actor Eric West were some of the names thrown around as possible replacements. Turns out it ain’t so. “Scandal” showrunner Shonda Rhimes took to Twitter Wednesday to set the record straight: “I’ve never heard of Eric West. Harrison is not being recast EVER. How about reporters CHECK THEIR SOURCES before running with a story?” Mama has spoken! But, poor Eric West. Welp, at least (more) people now know who he is. Know what I think? I think “Scandal” will stay true to its soapy nature with Harrison returning later after completing some covert assignment that Papa Pope tasked him with (aka when Columbus’ life straightens up). Do you agree? Watch the “Scandal” season three finale below, paying close attention to the cliffhanger involving Harrison. Do you think Papa Pope or his goons will pull the trigger? Season 4 can’t come soon enough!
On my watchlist? What I’m tuning in to see and what I’ll catch up with XFINITY On Demand…
“4 Little Girls”: All of this recent talk about Spike Lee’s projects (“She’s Gotta Have It” coming to TV and directing the Katt Williams special) inspired me to check out some of the work available online or on TV with XFINITY On Demand™. Watch the documentary on HBO here.
The Hot List: Who/What’s Hot, Not
HOT: First lady Michelle Obama tweeting support for missing Nigerians (Hoping all of these young ladies return to their families safely.).
NOT: People who think all “black” hairstyles are unprofessional (Oh, when will they learn?).
HOT: Queen Latifah caring for her mother, Rita Owens, who is battling the autoimmune illness scleroderma (Kudos! Hope Mama Rita gets well soon!).
NOT: Jet magazine ending its print publication (I know, I know, it’s the sign of the time.)
