The 15th Annual International Indian Film Academy Celebrations & Awards took place in Tampa from April 23-26, 2014. Fans of Indian cinema saw their favorite Bollywood stars walk the green carpet and witnessed the spectacle of pageantry, choreographed performances, and an extravagant production. Bollywood stars proudly adorned the latest creations from international designers with elegance and style. The awards show that was held at Raymond James Stadium on April 26th was witnessed by more than 40,000 people that came from all parts of the globe.
There were some fashion ‘hits’ and some ‘misses’ like in any other star studded event. The best dressed actresses were Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone. Stylish Priyanka chose a Monique Lhuiller gown and finished off her look with smoky eyes and a loose bun. She was graceful as always and walked with John Travolta on green carpet. Deepika Padukone arrived in a red lace gown by Zuhair Murad and walked the star walkway with the Hollywood star Kevin Spacey. Deepika was the hands-down winner in her red sheer gown, high bun and dark red lipstick.
Kareena Kapoor arrived in Giorgio Armani black evening gown with a bold plunging neckline which had a skin-color camouflage piece if seen closely. Bipasha Basu looked stunning in a Rocky S dazzling black gown. The new fashionista on the block, Sonakshi Sinha was ravishing in a navy blue Amit Aggarwal gown. Bollywood actress Sridevi was shimmering on the green carpet of the IIFA awards. The “English Vinglish” actress wowed her fans in her Oscar De Le Renta gown. Thousands of enthusiastic fans were lined up to watch their favorite stars. Nina Davuluri – Miss America was showstopper at IIFA Rocks Fashion show and was spotted on the green carpet with a white thigh-high slit gown, designed by Tony Bowls. She accessorized her look with her crown and an envelope clutch.
Among the male stars, topping the list of best dressed was Hrithik Roshan while Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn and John Travolta, who later tried Bollywood moves on stage arrived in Nehru jackets.
As for the green-carpet misses: just like her ideas, Kalki Koechin was overly creative in her clothes throughout the weekend. It was always too much going on with her silhouettes, neckline, collar or hat. Dia Mirza likewise was in need of dresses that did not pull away attention from her pretty face. On the contrary, she wore a heavy sequined peach/red gown on the green carpet. Madhuri Dixit still has charisma in dance and acting but neither her hairdo nor her black gown left any statement. Another miss was Parineeti Choprain a bright peach dress which had a long slit up to her waist worn with black tights – a bit too casual for this occasion.
