It’s that time of year again!
The American Black Film Festival, ABFF, kicks off its 18th annual jubilee, with four days dedicated to the very best in black cinema and TV. It all begins at 8 p.m. EST today with the New York premiere of Screen Gems’ “Think Like a Man Too” and concludes Sunday with the world premiere of Spike Lee’s “Da’ Sweet Blood of Jesus.”
ABFF also will premiere several other films, including “Muted,” starring “Grey’s Anatomy’s” Chandra Wilson and Malcolm-Jamal Warner, “Blackbird” starring Mo’Nique and Isaiah Washington, and “Una Vida,” starring Aunjanue Ellis and Andre Royo. “Life’s Essentials with Ruby Dee” is film that people have been buzzing about for the past couple of years. It’s a documentary directed by Muta’Ali Muhammad that spotlights the “lasting love, conscious art and undying activism” of his grandparents actors Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis. The 90-minute documentary will premiere Sunday.
If you’re unable to make it to the film festival, no worries because we have you covered. XFINITY’s Celebrate Black TV will provide exclusive coverage of ABFF, giving you a bird’s-eye view of everything–EVERYTHING–happening there. That’s red carpet coverage, exclusive celebrity interviews with Chadwick Boseman, Phylicia Rashad and Spike Lee and a behind-the-scenes look at the festival. So be sure to join me and my co-host for the weekend, Issa Rae (“The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl”), for all of your ABFF coverage.
