FOX Renews ‘Lethal Weapon’ & ‘Star’

‘Star’ (FOX)

It’s been a busy week for first-year series pickups at FOX.

Fresh off freshman comedy The Mick getting renewed for a second season on Tuesday, fellow first-year drama Lethal Weapon and Star were renewed for second seasons today.

From Empire creator Lee Daniels, Star focuses on three teenagers starting a girl group and also stars Queen Latifah and Benjamin Bratt. The series airs on Wednesday nights and is pulling in 4.5 million total viewers, and a 1.4 rating in the coveted 18-49 demo. In the L+7 ratings, those numbers climb to 6.3 and 2.2 respectively.

Re-imagined from the popular movie series, Lethal Weapon also airs on Wednesday nights and stars Clayne Crawford and Damon Wayans Sr as the memorable duo of Riggs and Murtaugh.

The series broke out pretty quickly for FOX and pulls in 6.6 total viewers and a 1.6 rating in the 18-49 demo. With L+7 factored in, those numbers climb to 9.4 and 2.5, making it the network’s second-rated drama.

Still to be determined are the fates of more underperforming freshman series Pitch, The Exorcist, Son of Zorn and APB.

Other broadcast series already renewed for a second season include NBC’s juggernaut This Is Us (renewed for two additional seasons) plus the Kristen Bell/Ted Danson comedy The Good Place.
