‘Scandal’ Celebrates 100th Episode by Revisiting Game-Changing Decision

*SPOILER ALERT*

Yep, it finally happened.

If you watched the latest “Scandal” episode (or see the photo posted below), then you know that TV’s favorite interracial couple has officially jumped the broom … sort of.

It’s finally happened. Olivia Pope and Fitzgerald Grant tie the knot in the latest “Scandal” episode. (Photo: ABC/Mitch Haaseth)

“Scandal,” which debuted in April 2012 on ABC, celebrated its 100th episode by revisiting the whole Defiance, Ohio, storyline where Olivia, Mellie, Cyrus, Verna and Hollis rigged the 2010 presidential election in Fitz’s favor. But what if Olivia, whose decision to fix the election held the most weight, dissented? How different would Liv’s life and the country be if they had never interfered? Would he have still won? Liv ponders this after she, Abby and Fitz have a heated argument about whether Mellie or Cyrus—who’s been imprisoned behind his running mate president-elect Frankie Vargas’ assassination—deserve the oval office once Fitz’s term ends.

I’ve already shared that “Olitz” has become official, but what about everyone else? What happens to Mellie, Cyrus and the other Gladiators? Oh, and Papa Pope and Jake? The outcome is pretty interesting. (Side note: I know Columbus Short was expelled from “Scandal” three years ago, but are we really going to pretend that Harrison wouldn’t have walked Liv down the aisle if her father didn’t? C’mon, now.)

Look, I’m really trying not to give too much away. I’ve already revealed the Fitz and Liv made it official (“Olitz” shippers rejoice) and figured that was OK since it happened early in the episode. But I do want to drop a few more hints and challenge your knowledge about the show.

1.  If the election-rigging incident never occured, a certain Gladiator’s life wouldn’t have been ruined, and Liv wouldn’t have been forced to bring them into the fold. Uh-huh…

2. If there’s a new Mrs. Fitzgerald Thomas Grant III, then one of the love triangles she found herself the center of probably wouldn’t have happened. Yep…

3. In this episode, Liv dons hairstyles featuring her natural texture, including at her wedding. Last week, the world rejoiced when former first lady Michelle Obama donned a natural hairstyle publicly, something she couldn’t do without facing backlash while in the White House. Mhmm…

4. In a recent interview with “Good Morning America” (posted below), the reporter noted how the “Scandal” characters are “very well-dressed,” to which Kerry Washington responded, “The clothes tell you about who we are and what we’re going through.” Well, I quickly noticed that along with Liv’s curly ringlets, her wardrobe is also different in this episode. Though I may have spied her wearing a Burberry trench coat, it wasn’t the $2,600 white Burberry Prorsum Duchess caped satin trench coat that had many of us drooling in the season three premiere. Yeah, Liv was giving us more Andrea Sachs pre-makeover than her usual Miranda Priestly in this latest episode. SMH…but she still looked cute.

OK, that’s it! Check out “Scandal’s” 100th episode below and watch the cast give interviews about the series, also below. “Scandal,” which is in its sixth season, airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
