Ruby Dee

Some of the many awards Ruby Dee has won are Grammys, Emmys, and Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Awards. Her most notable works have been “A Raisin in the Sun” and “American Gangster.” Dee has also tried her hand at poetry, playwriting, screenwriting, journalism, and most successfully, activism. She was also good friends with both Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcom X. Dee and her late husband ended up receiving the Lifetime Achievement Freedom Award due to their activism, and in 2007 she was inducted into the Women’s Hall of Fame. —XFINITY Entertainment Staff
