Whether you call him Batman, The Batman, The Dark Knight or The Caped Crusader, there is no doubting this superhero's ongoing impact on television, film and pop culture.
Why do audiences continue to connect with Bruce Wayne and his winged alter-ego? Because unlike so many heroes on this list, Batman is a hero without superpowers. He is a regular man (albeit a filthy rich man) driven by the murder of his parents to bring justice to unjust world. And he does so by using his intellect, physical prowess and sheer determination.
Batman has been portrayed on-screen by several actors, including Lewis Wilson (1943), Robert Lowery (1949), Adam West (1960s), Michael Keaton (1989-1992), Val Kilmer (1995), George Clooney (1997) and, currently, Christian Bale. Bale will conclude his portrayal of Batman this month when "The Dark Knight Rises" comes to theaters July 20.—Xfinity Entertainment Staff (Photo: Warner Bros)
