Best & Worst Movie Adaptations

22 of 23

1: WORST: 'The Scarlet Letter'

Nathaniel Hawthorne's "The Scarlet Letter" has graced high school reading lists everywhere and is widely regarded as a classic example of American literature. The film (very) loosely based on the book has graced "Worst Movie of All Time" lists for years and is widely considered a classic example of how terribly wrong movie adaptations can go. Demi Moore and Gary Oldman are thrust into melodrama as a community is rocked by moral transgression. In reality, the only real sin in this film is how awful it is. —XFINITY Entertainment Staff (Photo: Hollywood)
