"The Simpsons" is an American institution, but critics who believe the show is well past its prime point to a 1997 episode entitled "The Principal and the Pauper" as the moment this series jumped the shark. In the episode, beloved Springfield Elementary principal Seymour Skinner is revealed to be, in fact, a man named Armin Tamzarian, who stole the identity of an M.I.A. soldier named Seymour Skinner after the Vietnam War. The twist was blasted as lazy storytelling and viewers felt betrayed by the eight-year ruse. —XFINITY Entertainment Staff (Photo: Fox)
