: "Law & Order" Years on Show
Aside from his gigs on TV, Thompson worked as an attorney, radio host and former Senator. In addition to representing the state of Tennessee in the U.S. Senate from 1994 to 2003, Thompson served as chairman of the International Security Advisory Board at the U.S. Department of State. He took a break from "Law & Order" in 2008 to run for president on the Republican ticket, but was unable to secure enough support and ended up dropping out of the race. His final projects were the movies "A Larger Life" and "90 Minutes in Heaven." On November 1, 2015, he died of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma at the age of 73. —XFINITY Entertainment Staff
