Husband of Mara Brock Akil, Salim Akil decided to enter the entertainment industry in the late 1990s. Akil’s first film, “Drylongso,” was released in 1999. He co-produced and wrote the script and the film was shown at both the Sundance and Berlin Film Festivals. Akil was also the executive producer on the TV show “Soulfood” of which he has written and directed many episodes. —XFINITY Entertainment Staff
