'Star Trek' Then & Now

15 of 37

NOW: Nichelle Nichols

As Uhura, Nichols became one of the first black women ever to have a major role on a network series. Following her "Star Trek" days, Nichols, now 82, helped recruit minority women for NASA. In 2010, the space-enthusiast visited the Johnson Space Center to tour the space shuttle simulator and Mission Control. She has a few movie projects currently in production, including the 2016 film "Noah's Room." —XFINITY Entertainment Staff (Photo by Cindy Ord/Getty Images)
