Sauerkraut has a lot going for it, says Sass. It’s made from cabbage, a member of the cruciferous vegetable family, shown to fight the growth of cancer cells and protect against heart disease by protecting blood vessel bends and branches, areas that tend to be the most prone to cholesterol build-up and inflammation. And the ‘good’ bacteria found in sauerkraut have also been linked to better digestive health, immune support, and cancer prevention, she says.
