Sojourner Truth

Famous abolitionist and women's rights activist Sojourner Truth was born Isabella Baumfree, a slave on the Hardenbergh plantation in upstate New York. Baumfree escaped to freedom in 1826, changing her name to Sojourner Truth many years later.
