Fact: There's No One-Size-Fits-All Screening Recommendation

The American Cancer Society (ACS) recommends guys of average risk (such as no family history) talk to their doctors about screening tests if they’re age 50 or older. Other organizations, such as the AUA, suggest men of average risk consider screening earlier at age 40 to establish a baseline. The bottom line: “Guys need to talk to their physicians to learn what makes the most sense for their personal health risks and lifestyle,” says Dr. Thrasher. Screening may include a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test, with or without a digital rectal exam (DRE).
