Poland Constitution Day

Guards of Honour marching before decorated figures in front of the Presidential Palace in Warsaw, Poland on Friday, 3 May 2013, a national holiday commemorating the adoption by Poland of a constitution in 1791 that outlined the citizens’ rights and obligations under the monarchy of the time. It was Europe’s first constitution, and the world’s second, after the constitution of the United States, that took effect in 1789. The statue of Prince Jozef Poniatowski, who lived at the time and supported Poland’s constitution, and of two lions in front of the palace, were decorated with cotillions in Poland’s national white-and-red colours, to mark the anniversary.
