South Dakota Water Woes

In this Oct. 16, 2012 photo a tree that once jutted from an island is seen poking through deep water because of rising water levels in Waubay, S.D. The town, founded as a railroad stop 130 years ago, is in the midst of a wet cycle that began in the early 1990s and has gobbled up houses and land. The population has dropped by about 100 people since 2000, to about 540. (AP Photo/Amber Hunt)
