Vito Forlenza's Final College Basketball Power Rankings

9 of 17

9. West Virginia (29-6, LW 4)

In five postseason games, including their run to the Big East tournament championship, West Virginia is scoring only 62.4 ppg. But the Mountaineers are allowing just 53.8. You wouldn't expect anything different from a Bob Huggins-coached team than hard-nosed defense. On the offensive end, Kevin Jones and Devin Ebanks have emerged to join Da'Sean Butler as legitimate scoring threats, combining for 60 over the first two games. But if the Mountaineers happen to come up short, don't tell Huggins it's because the Big East was overrated. "Whoever doesn't think the Big East is a great league really shouldn't write sports," the coach said. "They ought to do something else. Do cooking or something."

My Pick: West Virginia's Sweet 16 matchup with Washington is one of the most intriguing of the regional semifinals. The Huskies are red hot, scoring more than 78 ppg, while the Mountaineers are advancing on the strength of physical play on defense. But can they slow down the Huskies? Not enough to avoid the upset.
