Joe Tinker and Johnny Evers

Tinker and Evers were a strong middle infield for the Chicago Cubs during the early 1900s. In 1905, the two were involved in a fist fight after Evers took a cab and left Tinker behind at a hotel lobby. After the fight they refused to speak to one another. Strangely, they played alongside each other for seven more years, turned numerous double plays, and won two World Series—all without a single word. The silent feud lasted 33 years until the two were asked to broadcast the 1938 World Series. (Charles M. Conlon/The Sun; AP Photo)
