Biggest NBA Offseason Moves

Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to Nets

Garnett waived his no-trade clause and Paul Pierce parted with the only NBA team he’s ever played for, as the future Hall-of-Famers were traded to the Nets for three first-round draft picks and a bunch of contracts.

John’s Take: Short term the Nets come out on top with this move. In addition to scoring KG and Pierce, Brooklyn also acquired the rights to Jason Terry. Pierce wouldn’t dare tarnish his legacy as a Celtic if it weren't for a serious opportunity to win another championship. Adding solid veterans to a talented roster of Deron Williams, Joe Johnson and Brook Lopez makes the Nets a playoff team poised to compete for the top spot in the East.

The Celtics won’t reap the benefits until at least 2014-15. General manager Danny Ainge is going after the coveted No. 1 pick in the 2014 Draft. The plan could backfire if Rajon Rondo manages to keep them in contention for a seventh or eighth seed in the playoffs. Don’t be surprised if the point guard is next out of town.
